Rocko's Modern Life

In what will be a ginormous nostalgic event come premiere time, Netflix has acquired the movie rights to beloved toons Rocko’s Modern Life and Invader Zim.

Netflix? They’re simply unstoppable.

In a blog post on NickALive!, Nikelodeon said they had sold the new movies’ rights to Netflix. That’s Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling and Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus.

A serious blast from the past, Rocko’s Modern Life first hit our telly screens in 1993 and went on to delight us until 1996. In Static Cling, all your beloved characters will return to Earth after being lost in outer space since… well… 1996. While Heffer and Filburt absolutely froth over all the new tech and social media, Rocko yearns for the ’90s and prefers to live in the past.

OG voice actors Carlos Alazraqui, Tom Kenny, and Mr. Lawrence (Douglas Lawrence Osowski) to name a few reprise their roles.

Invader Zim, which ran for two seasons, introduces us to a murderous extraterrestrial named Zim who heads on over to Earth to conquer the planet in order to impress his bosses. In Enter The Florpus, Zim discovers his almighty leaders have absolutely no intention of coming to Earth so for the first time in ever, Zim loses confidence in his own amazingness. This is bad for Zim but fabulous news for his human nemesis Dib. Nikelodeon teased that at one point in the movie, Zim’s robot companion Gir rides a tiny donkey which sure, why not?

Once again, the show’s original voice cast members Richard Horvitz and Rikki Simons return as Zim and Gir. They join Andy Berman as Dib Membrane and Melissa Fahn as Gaz Membrane.

Christ, what a throwback.

The news was announced at Viacom’s Q2 Earnings Call 2019 by Viacom CEO Bob Bakish.

There’s yet to be an official release date but we’ll keep you updated.
