Sound the Inception horns, here’s your first look at the new plot-thin trailer for the second installment of J.J. Abrams’ forthcoming Trekkie reboot: Star Trek Into Darkness. Brraaahhmmmmmppp!
The film, helmed by Abrams from a screenplay by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Abrams’ Prometheus-assisting Lost wingman Damon Lindelof, sees the return of the first installment’s entire Enterprise crew – Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana and ‘Roldy from Harold and Kumar – along with newcomer and possible frenemy antagonist John Harrison, played with jerk-face smarm by Sherlock star and the man with most British name in Hollywood, Benedict Cumberbatch.
Some media outlets are speculating that this enigmatic John Harrison fellow (previously unknown in the Star Trek universe) is just a smokescreen for rumored villain Khan, ala – spolier alert here – JGL’s gotcha! Robin reveal in The Dark Knight Rises. It’s hard to tell if that is indeed the case (it’s hard to tell anything, actually) so we’ll just have to wait til May to find out. Til then…
The film is slated for release in May.
