Star Trek Into Darkness was a fairly dark, brooding affair, so the just-released trailer for Star Trek Beyond is a bit of a course correction, going out of its way to remind everyone of how fun and footloose J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 franchise reboot was. It even features the Beastie Boys‘ ‘Sabotage‘, in a callback to one of the earlier film’s key sequences.
The film features Idris Elba as its villain, and stars the familiar posse of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin. Abrams is off pulling Star Wars duty, so Justin Lin, of the Fast & Furious series, is in the director’s chair this time.
The film opens in July 2016.
