An off-colour tinge of foreshadowing appears in The Simpsons’ final episode of its current 26th season – kicking off with a guest, extended couch gag featuring Adult Swim stars Rick and Morty, who crash-land and obliterate Evergreen Terrace’s greatest family.
Serving as a release date announcement for Rick and Morty’s upcoming season (July 26) and providing a precursor for Rick and Morty’s guest appearance on the episode that followed the opener, it might not upstage Guillermo Del Toro‘s legendary take on the couch gag, but it’s still pretty damn great.
With fans turning away from TV’s longest running animated show in history, and one of its voice acting stalwarts calling it quits after 26 seasons, the demise witnessed here might not be too different to the show’s impending fate.
