‘The Simpsons’ Couch Gag Gets Trippy And French With Sylvain Chomet Directing

In what is hopefully becoming a trend, The Simpsons have invited another guest director to have a crack at doing something new in their long running couch gag.

Last time it was Guillermo del Toro. This time it was Sylvain Chomet, director of The Illusionist and The Triplets of Belleville, who got behind the wheel and turned the couch gag into something vaguely similar to doing LSD and watching The Simpsons. Though, thankfully, he managed to do so while still keeping us in the comfort of not being on LSD and thinking that the walls are trying to kill us.

The kids who watch the show these days probably won’t get the subtle nuance of it. But that’s okay, they’ll appreciate it when they’re older.
