Watch Neil Patrick Harris Open The 2013 Emmy Awards

Neil Patrick Harris is one of the most entertaining, charming and versatile award ceremony performers working right now. It’s a very specific talent, but one that makes the life draining tedium that is a known trademark of these types of events kept as minimal as possible. After a pre-taped piece spoofing the binge watching phenomenon, Patrick Harris arrived on stage for the Opening Monologue (one that was, regrettably, absent of the song and dance numbers he’s used to kill as host of the Tony Awards). [UPDATE: NPH did a song and dance number in the middle of the show called ‘The Number In The Middle Of The Show’. Watch it below.]

He enlisted former Emmys hosts Jimmy Kimmel, Jane Lynch, Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien for the bit, but it also features a cameo appearance by a great actor poking fun at the character who has earned him a Outstanding Actor nomination this year, and the highlight: television’s horniest middle aged broads heckling from the front row (also refer GIF after the jump).
