If you liked Liam Neeson in ‘Taken’, then you’ll love him in ‘A Monster Calls’, in which he plays a big wise old tree monster with a little British child as a friend.
Surely his biggest role yet. When I think Liam Neeson, I think enormous, deep-voiced tree monsters living in the English countryside, and finally my dream has been actualised. This is good.
It’s a fantasy tale about a kid who, dealing with the illness of his mother, is visited at midnight every night by the big old tree that lives in the field across from his home, who tells him stories.
It looks pretty cool. Directed by J.A. Bayona, it’s based on the book of the same title by Patrick Ness, and also stars Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones who, to my understanding do not play enormous wise trees. They play regular people, like in a regular movie.
