WATCH: Bella’s “Husband” Kinda Forgot To Mention His Son On ‘First Sight’

As the show is extremely fond of telling you, ‘Married At First Sight‘ is not just a trashy reality TV show – it’s a highly serious and deadly important experiment.

Can two people who’ve never met enter a happy marriage based on how they answered a questionnaire / will look together on television? The answer is almost definitely “no”, but that’s what we’re here to find out.
Everything about the “marriages” in the show are meant to simulate a real marriage: they have a celebrant, they have a reception, they go on honeymoons where they’re forced to deal with each other’s bowel movements in the close proximity of the ensuite – they even had Craig and Andy‘s wedding in New Zealand, to account for the fact that Australia is a backwards shithole that straight up refuses to legislate marriage equality.
So if we’re meant to be treating these “marriages” as just marriages, it would logically follow that you would probably want to know if your prospective partner has a kid, because you, theoretically, you would be about to become a parent to that very child.
Michael and Bella have so far been one of my favourite couples on the show, and not just because they’re the easiest to picture having sex (they are though) – they’re both likeable people and they haven’t had any petty bullshit arguments unlike everyone else, who largely seem to have the interpersonal skills of a listless 12 year old.
They very nearly had their first hiccup though, when Michael decided to wait until Swerve O’Clock on day 3 of their marriage to just casually drop that he has a bouncing baby boy (actually he’s 6, but I like the alliteration).
There’s a moment of awkwardness before Bella gets completely on board with it, which makes me feel nice in my tummy but at the same time seems like a super insane thing for a person in that position to do. Reality TV does crazy things to the human brain.
Have a watch:
The ominous music might make it seem like shit’s about to go bad, but I mean, really, who could be mad at that face?
