Xander Cage will return.
That’s right, 13 years after Vin Diesel saved the world as as the arse-kicking, fast car-driving, snowboard-riding secret agent, he will return for another entry in the xXx series. It’s a great day, people
Diesel made the announcement via Instagram, saying “While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel… The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines. #ILiveForThisShit”
Vin Diesel was due to star in xXx: State Of The Union in 2005, but when he pulled out due to a scheduling conflict, they replaced him with Ice Cube, and explained his death off-screen.
Perhaps as karmic retribution for this dick move, the sequel tanked at the box office, and the franchise had been dormant for a decade, until Diesel’s resurgence in popularity kicked off talk of a new instalment.
The one continuity issue that the third movie faces is an el cheapo short film called The Death Of Xander Cage, included as a bonus feature on the xXx 2 DVD, that shows a Vin Diesel lookalike meeting a fiery death via an explosion.
Somehow, though, we think Hollywood will find a way to explain this away. A 2017 release is looking likely for the new instalment in the series.
