Umm, Star Wars ‘Rogue One’ Probs Won’t Include The ~Iconic~ Opening Crawl

This may not come as a giant surprise to some mad fans, but it’s now been confirmed that the first standalone film in the Star Wars universe, Rogue One‘, probably won’t include the iconic opening crawl.
For those not so hellbent on Star Wars, the opening crawl is this thing – the ‘crawling’ text at the beginning of the film to explain what the fuck is going on:
Entertainment Tonight reported the story directly from the insanely amazing Star Wars celebration that’s currently going on in London
Gwendoline Christie, who plays Captain Phasma in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ moderated a cast and crew panel, where the question of the opening crawl was posed.
Lucasfilm President and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy and ‘Rogue One’ director Gareth Edwards answered… sort of.
“You know, we’re in the midst of talking about it, but I don’t think these films will have an opening crawl,” said Kennedy. “I think that’s what we kind of telegraphed at the beginning of the event today.”
Edwards was a little more of a closed book:

“I think basically there’s a lot of things that I probably can’t talk about, is probably the safest way to answer that.

The idea is this film is supposed to be different than the saga films… the whole crawl of it all – t’s funny people are fascinated on that.”
The director points out that the entire movie was borne of original crawl text:
“This film is born out of a crawl. The thing that inspired this movie was a crawl and what was written in that.

There’s this feeling that if we did a crawl, then it’ll create another movie. And so the honest answer is you’ll have to wait and see.”

But, there’s not long ’til we find out – ‘Rogue One’ hits cinemas December 15th.
