The Apocalypse Is Nigh In Gerard Way’s New Netflix Series ‘Umbrella Academy’

Umbrella Academy

Netflix has dropped the first badass trailer for their upcoming superhero show The Umbrella Academy, based on the elite comic book series by My Chemical Romance‘s Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá.

The series, which has an almighty cast lead by Ellen Page, begins with one fateful day in 1989 when 43 babies are born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy before giving birth. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist responsible for creating The Umbrella Academy.

At the school, the children – all with their own unique abilities – learn to save the world but in their teenage years the family hits a wall and they decide to disband.

Years later, the six remaining members – all in their 30s now – reunite when their father suddenly dies in curious circumstances. Not to mention they only have eight days to get over their family dysfunction because a full-on apocalypse is around the corner.

Good fun.

Bá and Way both serve as executive producers and Steve Blackman (Fargo, Altered Carbon) helms the series.

There’ll be ten one-hour episodes all up so prepare for some quality bingeing material.
