Here We Bloody Go, Netflix Just Started Hyping ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 2

Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy season 2 has finally copped the mysterious “coming soon” treatment from Netflix, which could mean it’s coming out in a month or two… at most. Surely. The point is, it’s “coming soon”. Finally.

Netflix recently announced three new additions to season 2. Ritu Arya (AMC’s Humans) will star as Lila, “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires”. Yusuf Gatewood (The Originals, Good Omens) will play Raymond, a “born leader and devoted husband”, and Marin Ireland will star as Sissy. She’s described as a fearless, no-nonsense Texas mum who “married young for all the wrong reasons.”

Created by My Chemical Romance‘s Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, Umbrella Academy is – at its core – a very bonkers family story. Sort of. There’s also heaps of glorious weird shit in it too, but that’s why we love it. It all begins on one fateful day in 1989 when 43 babies are born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy before giving birth. So, right off the bat, things are suss. Seven of these babies, who happen to have super powers, are adopted by stiff billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves. And thus, the heroic Umbrella Academy is born.

Ellen Page leads the cast as Vanya Hargreeves otherwise known as The White Violin. She’s joined by Tom Hopper as very big unit Luther Hargreeves (Spaceboy), David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves (The Kraken), Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison Hargreeves (The Rumor), Robert Sheehan as sweet angel Klaus Hargreeves (The Séance), Aidan Gallagher as Number Five (The Boy), and Justin H. Min as Ben Hargreeves (Number Six).
