The Voice Australia, notable this year for the totally-real-and-not-manufactured-for-your-amusement feuding between Delta Goodrem and Jessie J, crowned its youngest ever winner last night, in Central Coast teen Ellie Drennan.
The 16-year-old, who performed Sinead O’Connor‘s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ and Beyoncé‘s ‘Halo’, walks away with $100,000, a record deal with Universal, and a lovely, economical car from corporate sponsors Ford.
Drennan beat 24-year-old busker Joe Moore, considered by many to be a favourite, and also knocked out fellow Central Coast teen Nathan Hawes and 23-year-old Liam Maihi.
The young singer got teary and thanked friends, family and her mentor Jessie J when her name was announced. Her debut single ‘Ghost’ is out now on iTunes, and she will release her debut album on the not-at-all-auspicious date of September 11.
Thankyou so much to all the poeple who voted for me. My new single #Ghost is now available at http://t.co/lMPa7eEhCl pic.twitter.com/omwYdzB0fz
