‘The Price Is Right’ Still Kicking After 55 Years

“Come on down Australia, as we shun the creation of new and original content in favour of resuscitating tired game show formats that were actually invented in the late fifties! The actual nineteen-fifties!”

That should be what Larry Emdur says as he makes his return to early-evening ‘lite’ entertainment (not even ‘light’ will suffice) with the format that made him a household target of projectile objects name ‘The Price Is Right.’ Instead he’ll probably just cap it off at “Come on down!” and smile that Larry Emdur smile that we all know and, well – fear know.

The show, in which contestants compete (read: guess the price of objects) to win cash and prizes will begin production next week and will launch on air next month, with the first episode dedicated to the late Ian Turpie, who hosted the program in the 80s and passed away earlier this month.

In a press release announcing the show’s revival, Emdur stated that “I’ve always been madly in love with this show. Its sole purpose in life, the reason it exists, is to have fun and lots of it. When I was asked if I wanted to be involved in this new version, I think I was as excited as 20 showcase winners in an inflatable spa bath.”

Twenty showcase winners in one inflatable spa bath? That literally sounds like my worst nightmare. Do you know how much Pseudomonas aeruginosa aka hot tob folliculitis you would get from an inflatable spa bath full of twenty showcase winners? If you know the answer, please, come on down.
