The Next Iron Man Is A Black, Female Science Genius Named Riri Williams

HOLY PROGRESSION, IRON MAN!

The creator and co-writer of Ironman, Brian Michael Bendis, did an exclusive interview with TIME which was published last night. In it, he revealed the heir to Tony Stark‘s throne; the hero that will carry on his legacy as ‘the next’ Iron Man
Meet Riri Williams. She’s a science genius who enrolled into MIT at the age of 15. And she also happens to be a black woman.
The writer says that Riri comes to Tony‘s attention when she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm room. We’ve apparently heard about her before, he says:
“In the latest issue of Iron Man, Tony is in a lab talking to himself, and he’s already aware that there’s some student at M.I.T. that’s reverse-engineered one of his old armors all by herself in her dorm room. He’s aware of her immediately.”

Bendis is also crucially aware of anyone who is critical of Riri‘s character because of the colour of her skin. He sees you, and he thinks you’re being stupid:

“Some of the comments online, I don’t think people even realise how racist they sound. I’m not saying if you criticise you’re a racist, but if someone writes, “Why do we need Riri Williams we already have Miles [Morales]?” that’s a weird thing to say. They’re individuals just like Captain America and Cyclops are individuals.”
Here’s the first release of artwork for Riri Williams, our new Iron Man:
Oh, and before you get upset, Bendis has clarified that knowing all this does not mean you know the end of Civil War II, so chill ya head about spoilers pls:

“More people are going to be upset that they think they know the ending to Civil War II now than anything we just talked about. But I can tell you just because we’re hearing what we’re saying doesn’t know you mean how Civil War II ends. We’re not telling you the end, at all.”
