Comic book lovers are fkn cheering after it’s been revealed that one of the variant covers for the new Invincible Iron Man comic series features Ariell Johnson – the badass woman of colour who owns and runs Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse in Philadelphia and the first woman of colour to run a comic shop on the east coast of America.

The cover features Johnson with Riri Williams (who is the main protagonist – YES) having coffee together while Tony Stark fends off rabid fans in the background.
Speaking to ABC, Johnson said that being a minority means you have very little heroes to look up to.
“When you are a person of colour, you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel to find someone you can identify with. I always felt like I was watching other people’s adventures.”
The comic is the latest volume of Iron Man, which steps away from the main protagonist being a wealthy white dude. Not only is it absolutely bloody refreshing to see a bit of diversity in comics, but it’s also giving a new role model to non-male nerds across the world.
The cover was also illustrated by Elizabeth Torque, so it’s pretty legit that comics and graphic novels aren’t just for nerdy boys anymore huh.
