Robert Downey Jr Has ‘No Plans’ For Iron Man 4

Sorry, Marvel lovers, but it seems that Robert Downey Jr is pretty ambivalent about the idea of playing genius billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark in any future Iron Man movies.

Variety caught up with the rakish actor at the Toronto International Film Festival and asked about the possibility of more sequels to the successful franchise, but he seemed less than enthused.
“There isn’t one in the pipe … No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man“, he said. When asked if he would be comfortable with another actor taking on the role of Tony Stark, he shrugged and said it’s not really up to him.
On the one hand, this could just be Downey Jr’s way of fucking with Disney in hopes that paranoid suits will throw even bigger wads of cash his way to return for another Iron Man film.
On the other, he’s already rich as hell, and at the age of 49, maybe doesn’t want to be donning awkward suits and standing in front of green screens when he could be doing, y’know, not those things.

We have not, however, seen the last of Downey Jr as Tony Stark. There are two more Avengers movies in the works, the first of which has wrapped and will come out in 2015, and the second of which is due in 2018.
