Word On The Grapevine Is Robert Downey Jr.’s Going To Be In The ‘Black Widow’ Movie

Robert Downey Jr. / Iron Man

RIGHTO, there’s a big ol’ rumour getting about that Iron Man AKA Tony Stark AKA Robert Downey Jr. will appear in Marvel’s upcoming Black Widow standalone movie.

Black Widow did first appear in Iron Man 2 so I guess that makes sense.

By now you must have seen Avengers: Endgame already, or at least read its Wiki page etc. Iron Man carks it, that’s what I’m trying to get at here. His death alongside Captain America‘s (Chris Evans) shield being passed on to Falcon meant the end of a decade-long era. So that was that. But now, rumour has it Iron Man will return in Marvel’s Black Widow movie.

The film was officially announced at this year’s Comic-Con. Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff. Stranger Things king David Harbour will star as Alexei/The Red Guardian, Florence Pugh (Lady MacBeth) as Yelena, O-T Fagbenle (The Handmaid’s Tale) as Mason, and Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) as Melina.

Aussie director Cate Shortland will helm the film which is slated for release May 1, 2020.

Deadline, the big guns, just straight up said that Downey Jr. will be in the movie but based on the wording, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be new footage. Or even a big part. But I could be wrong.

“Downey will be seen in the role of Stark one more time,” Deadline wrote. That’s it, that’s all it wrote – in brackets no less – like it’s no big deal.

The single sentence was buried within a story about the Saturn Award winners – Downey scored the best actor gong for Endgame – so it wasn’t picked up until now, and no one really knows what to do with it.

The team over at People reached out to Disney but Mickey had no comment… which is… interesting.

If it does end up happening there’s no doubt Iron Man’s final-final appearance will drive people to the cinemas, if they weren’t keen on the movie already. We do love Mr. Stark 3000, after all.
