Terrifying Sinkhole Reclaims Small Part of Queensland

Famous for mainly happening in other countries, everyone’s favourite terrifying abysses made an aggressive expansion into the Australian market last night with a 3.5 metre wide sinkhole in Queensland’s Bruce Highway.

The 1.5m deep sinkhole, which probably shouldn’t be interpreted as God reclaiming the earth from Campbell Newman, opened up about 20km from the town of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay.

No one was hurt, although some fairly heinous comments were left on a post on Queensland Police Service’s Facebook re: the semantic difference between potholes and sinkholes and also whether it should just be plugged up with the Big Mango.

We’ll keep you posted as news develops/more of Queensland is consumed.
