Lemme level with ya here: The MTV VMA Awards are like the Love Island of the award show world. They may not be well respected and you’re probably too embarrassed to admit you even know they exist, but maaaaan are they entertaining to watch!
And, again, while they might not be revered on the same level as, say, The Grammys, every year a host of top notch talent show up to the ceremony so obviously the celebs care enough about the accolade to attend the event. Right?
Which is why it blows my freaking MIND that whichever fools are running the show has decided to snub Taylor Swift from the big award categories.
After a long period of hiding following Kimye‘s Snapchat Gate, Swift came slithering back onto the scene with some of the best music videos of the past decade, IMO.
‘Look What You Made Me Do’ (which broke the 24 hour VEVO record with 43.2 MILLION views), ‘Ready For It?’ and ‘End Game’ (sorry Tay, I can’t even defend ‘Delicate’) were obvious choices for Video Of The Year and Song Of The Year and she as a comeback queen totally deserved a spot in the Artist Of The Year category, but nup.
I mean, it wasn’t a total snub as she scored noms for minor categories like Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing but while Swift is always heavily involved in the creative process of her work, the decision to chuck her behind-the-scenes type accolades and nothing for her work as a performer is V. unfair and, frankly, an absolute travesty of justice.
Naturally, the Swifties (Taylor’s loyal fan base) have had some thoughts about the snub and they’re not holding back on Twitter…
Taylor Swift did not break the 24 hour VEVO record with 43.2 MILLION views for @vmas to snub LWYMMD like that. pic.twitter.com/F2rnSLgJ3C
