Sydney Restaurants To Charge You For Not Showing Up

High-rating Sydney restaurants Quay and Sepia are set to teach diners a lesson in manners by instituting a no-show charge on bookings.

Apparently having had a number of empty tables on busy nights which could have otherwise been filled, Quay owner John Fink spat the dummy and decided to do something about it. “Quay restaurant is now booked out until next year – my mother can’t even get a booking.” he said. “We have three dedicated staff just to deal with the bookings, so imagine how we feel when … tables just do not turn up. It is very hurtful and rude.” It appears overseas celebs may be the main culprits, making bookings at multiple swish eateries and choosing one at the last minute. That mean if you spot Leonardo DiCaprio at ARIA, it’s likely some other restaraunteer isn’t going to eat for a week. And neither is John Fink’s mother.

Quay will charge a full $165 to your credit card if you don’t get there or change plans at the last minute. Sepia plans to charge $50 per person for a no-show. It’s all totally cray-cray, until you consider that everyone from movie theaters to tennis court owners do exactly the same thing. Alternatively, go to McDonalds, where we’re pretty sure Grimace and The Hamburgler won’t ask for your credit card in advance.
