Surprise! Health Experts Have Taken Pete Evans To Task Yet Again

My Kitchen Rules judge and unstoppable good idea machine Pete Evans is under fire from dietitians yet again, after complaints that his new, improved paleo baby formula could still be seriously harmful to infants.

A few weeks back, Evans’ paleo-for-kids book Bubba Yum Yum, co-written by Charlotte Carr and Helen Padarin, was pulled from sale after warnings that a liver and bone broth baby formula contained a potentially lethal dose of vitamin A.
After the physical publication of the book was suspended, the authors said that they would push ahead with a digital version.
If Bubba Yum Yum was to stay true to the spirit of the paleolithic era, it would have to be a series of cave drawings depicting bison and oversized phalluses, but Evans and co are clearly willing to make some concessions to the modern world.
Last week, Carr and Padarin appeared on Seven’s Morning Show to do some damage control and sell the benefits of their new, improved baby formula, which has been rewritten following last month’s controversy.
The DIY formula is now called ‘Happy Tummy Brew’, and as Carr explained, “we added vitamin C and some calcium.” Those are both healthy-sounding things, right?
Diet experts, it seems, still aren’t having it. Per reports in News Limited, a representative of the Dietitians Association of Australia says this new concoction could still “seriously harm” babies.
“The authors seem to have made a serious mistake with this second version of their liver and broth recipe, suggesting they do not understand the basic scientific and nutrition information relevant for infant feeding,” she said.
“They have said publicly that they have tried to make it safe by reworking the original recipe, and increasing the age for which it’s suggested from 0-6 months to now be 6-12 months, but they have failed spectacularly to meet any safe standards.”
“This is just another example of the serious dangers of following the health and medical advice of unqualified people.”
FWIW, the World Health Organization recommend that infants should be exclusively breast fed for the first six months of life, and the only safe alternative is commercially-produced formula.
Hats off to Evans for finding a way to make Drasko and Bianca look sympathetic.
