Pete Evans’ Controversial Paleo For Kids Book Will Be Released Online

My Kitchen Rules judge, thousand yard stare-haver and paleo enthusiast Pete Evans found himself the subject of controversy last week, when health experts warned that certain recipes in his upcoming kids’ cookbook Bubba Yum Yum: The Paleo Way could actually be dangerous for children.
The main cause of concern was a recipe for a DIY infant formula based on bone broth and liver, which contains more than 10 times the safe level of vitamin A for babies. Health officials warned that this and other recipes were “negligent”, and that there was “a very real possibility” a baby could die if fed the formula in question.

Last week, publisher Pan Macmillan delayed the release of the book, co-authored by recipe blogger Charlotte Carr and naturopath Helen Padarin. Yesterday, they announced that they would be pulling the release of the book completely, presumably not wanting the “very real possibility” of dead babies hanging over their heads.
What’s a paleo evangelist to do? In a statement overnight on his Facebook page Evans announced that he and his fellow authors would be releasing the book themselves:
Charlotte, Helen and I are thrilled to announce that “Bubba Yum Yum The Paleo Way” will be a proudly independent digital worldwide release in April with print to follow. We didn’t want to wait, too many people are wanting this beautiful treasure trove of nutritional recipes and we are extremely thankful to all our followers and colleagues for their support. A huge thank you also goes out to all the media for them helping to raise awareness about this over the last week, we hope you continue to do more of the same. Keep up the great work promoting paleo. Xo

It’s unclear whether this version of the book will include the controversial baby formula recipe.
For the record, the World Health Organization recommend that infants should be exclusively breast fed for the first six months of life, and the only safe alternative is commercially-produced formula.
