The Duffer Bros Say “The American” Will Potentially Play A Huge Part In ‘Stranger Things 4’

Stranger Things Season 4

Stranger Things Season 4 is all anyone can think about, especially since Stranger Things 3 dropped last week and if you are anything like me, you binged it all as quickly as humanly possible. Which is fine and all while it’s happening, but as soon as you’re done with all 8 episodes, you’re left with a huge gaping Stranger Things-shaped hole in your life that just can’t be filled with anything but MORE EPISODES.

With the gap between Season 2 and Season 3 roughly a year and 8 months, this means the wait for Stranger Things Season 4 — which might I add hasn’t been actually announced by Netflix yet — could potentially be interminably long. Especially because we were all led to believe that Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) got incinerated by the Evil Russians’ secret weapon at the end.

But the kindly creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer, collectively known as the Duffer Bros, have shared some vague hints about where this theoretical Stranger Things Season 4 might take us.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Duffers dropped bulk thoughts about what’s to come, with Ross saying:

At the end of season two, we knew about Billy. We knew that the Russians were going to come in. We didn’t know the mall and stuff, but again, we know these big broad strokes. That’s sort of where we are in season four. We have the big broad strokes. It’s just now about filling in those lines in the details. We’re pretty excited about where it’s potentially going to go. Again, like we said, it’s going to feel very different than this season. But I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting.

Matt adds: “I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”

Could that possibly mean… Russia? Where we had our post-credits scene featuring a hungry Demogorgon and that not-so-subtle reference to an imprisoned “American” who we are all desperately hoping is our precious Hopper?

Well, old mate Ross basically confirms that will be touched on in Stranger Things Season 4, telling Entertainment Weekly:

Assuming there’s a season 4, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell and then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon, is a tease. That’s obviously going to play a huge role in a potential season four.

Oh my god. Netflix, u up? Greenlight this bitch already, for the love of all things good and holy.
