Prepare To Relive ~The Talk~ With Netflix’s New Series ‘Sex Education’

There’s not much that’s more of a deeply-embarrassing rite of passage in your teens than having The Talk with your parents. You’ve probably blanked it out of your memory, really. But just be thankful that your mum isn’t a sex therapist like Gillian Anderson in the upcoming comedy series, Sex Education.

The first trailer for the Netflix series looks like it’s a mix between Skins and The Inbetweeners – full to the brim with awkward conversations with your parents about sexual health and the unadulterated discussion of just about every sexuality-related qualm that clueless teenagers have throughout high-school. Comedy gold here, people.

Sex Education follows Otis (played by Asa Butterfield) and his relationship with his incredibly frank and honest mum (Anderson) who wants him to be educated and knowledgeable about sex and sexuality, which means she talks about it a lot.

SEXUALLY-LIBERATED GILLIAN ANDERSON THERAPIST MUM ALERT.

When the kids at school begin to wrestle with puberty, their bodies changing, and a heightened interest in bumping uglies with each other, Otis and his savvy friend Maeve (played by Emma Mackey) decide to put all of Otis’ knowledge he’s reluctantly gleaned from his mum to good use – by starting up an underground sex therapy service at school. Hell yes, mates.

Check out the trailer below and try to not think about that time your ‘rents jabbered through an attempt to chat about the birds and the bees with you.

Between this and Big Mouth, 21st century teens are pretty fuckin’ blessed with a seriously well thought-out representation of what it’s like to go through puberty.

If this is the new era of coming-of-age content that actually kinda accurately depict the horribly awkward time of blindly fumbling around learning about bodies and sexuality, then I am incredibly here for it. If only for Anderson’s perfectly-coiffed blonde hair.

Season one of Sex Education will hit Netflix on January 11.
