Tell Mum: Beloved Aussie Series ‘SeaChange’ Could Be Copping A Reboot

While it’s still early days, and there’s nothing official to get excited about just yet, we are very quietly squealing at rumours that the beloved ’90s TV series and staple of our childhood couch viewing SeaChange is being considered for the reboot treatment.

TV Tonight were the first to report the rumour, saying that there are “whispers” about a possible SeaChange revival, and that two unnamed networks have made offers to ITV Studios Australia to bring it back “in some form.”

The original show, which ran for three seasons between 1998 and 2000, was the TV equivalent of a warm, fuzzy blanket. It starred Sigrid Thornton as Laura, a big city lawyer who moved to the quirky seaside town of Pearl Bay, and got to know the eccentric locals.

SeaChange was also a vital part of the nation’s – or at least my own personal – sexual awakening, thanks to the presence of David Wenham‘s Diver Dan, the handsome, roguish fisherman whose love for Laura was as wild and tempestuous as the sea. Sorry guys, I’m going to need a moment here.

ANY-FREAKIN-HOO. SeaChange also starred John Howard and Kerry Armstrong as shady local real estate agent Bob Jelly and his devoted wife Heather, and William McInnes, who became Laura’s eventual love interest after David Wenham buggered off to Middle Earth.

The official SeaChange website, which was active until at least last year, has recently been taken down (I know because I used to check it a lot), but it’s unclear whether this is the result a coming reboot, ABC budget cuts, or just, y’know, the fact that it was 20 years old and full of dodgy Flash animations.

There is no word yet on whether the rebooted series might introduce all-new characters or bring back the original cast as many recent reboots have done, but either way, mark us down as KEEN.
