In the midst of the backlash that prompted James Gunn‘s firing from Guardians of the Galaxy 3, tweets of a similar nature that were posted by comedian Sarah Silverman almost a decade ago have resurfaced.
The tweet from 2009 makes a joke about child molestation, much like Gunn’s:
“Hey, is it considered molestation if the child makes the first move? I’m gonna need a quick answer on this.”

As the tweet did the ’rounds across the interwebs and Silverman started to cop hate from the public, she took to Twitter to defend herself, writing:
“Some very odd people R saying I’m a pedo, re: a joke from a time not that long ago when hard absurd jokes by comedians were acknowledged for what they were — jokes — not a disengenuous national threat to people fake-clutching their pearls (whilst ranting the country’s too PC).”

She also addressed the controversial tweet last year when an angry user called her out.
“Was that supposed to be funny? Cause it wasn’t,” wrote the upset follower.
Silverman replied saying, “that’s ok doll. Comedy is subjective. I thought it was a funny/dumb tweet 8 years ago when I posted it.”
