Robert Pattinson Wants To Play Jeff Buckley

…Just in case the 2010 Razzie Nominations didn’t quench your thirst for superfluous Twlilight references, here’s one more for you in the most uh oh… news story of the day.

Robert Pattinson, in a very deliberate effort to secure a role paradoxical to his late vampire projects, has his sights set on playing the role of Jeff Buckley in a film set to be shot later this year.

The almost inhumanly talented Buckley, who in 1997 tragically drowned at just 30 years old, is a musical idol for 24-year-old Pattinson who is naturally pretty keen to score the lead.

Pattinson, who has garnered the approval of Jeff’s mother himself (she said: “Robert is a fine young actor. I’m flattered he’s been linked to this project. When the time comes we’ll give everybody an opportunity to be seen and heard”) is said to be a main contender for the part, alongside other hopefuls James Franco, Ryan Gosling, Johnny Depp and James Marsden.

Says the film’s producer, Michelle Sy, “The actor must be able to play music and sing, or at least make it believable he can do that. Until we start auditions there’s no way we know who’s best for the part.”

Check out R-Patt singing about being deficient in vitamin D and how he gets his hair to do that flicky thing:

We aren’t sure they should even attempt to make this movie.
