We didn’t see this piece of casting coming. In the forthcoming biopic about angel voiced musician Jeff Buckley your beloved rock god will be played by Penn Badgley, also known as the actor who plays Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl – the one with the insufferable middleclass chip on his shoulder.
The hugely sought after role was strongly tipped for James Franco as well as Twilight dreamboat Robert Pattinson who had openly campaigned for the role. A source from Hollywoodlife.com said: “Robert Pattinson is devastated he’s lost out on the one role he really wanted. It was down to Rob, James Franco and Penn for the part, and Rob was really pushing himself to get it.”

I’ve gotta say, Badgley does have that whole Nineties-alt-guy look about him. And he sings too. Check out this footage I found by randomly trawling through youtube, it’s reasonably promising…
