After his stint hosting the Golden Globes in January led to much controversy, offense and lulz, Ricky Gervais has now revealed he has been asked to host the 2012 Academy Awards, an offer he turned down, saying, “I couldn’t do the Oscars. It’s a thankless task for a comedian. They don’t want to hear jokes, they want to hear if they have won the most important award of their career.”
Fair enough, but ABC, the US TV channel that broadcasts the Oscars, has since completely denied he was ever asked. Awkward!
Gervais has also claimed he would never host the Golden Globes again, but says the Hollywood Foreign Press Association still asked him. “I shouldn’t do it,” he has said. “It’s a second encore. Don’t do a second encore. I don’t think I should do it.”
So, reckon he’ll do it?
