Ricky Gervais To Gently Bake Hollywood For A Fifth Time At 2020 Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais, the comic so risky and dangerous he was invited to host the Golden Globes four times in between 2010 and 2016, has been invited to MC the show for fifth time in 2020.

The Hollywood Reporter states that Gervais, who co-created The Office and helped spin Karl Pilkington into the world, will return to the stage on January 5 to rip into a room full of millionaires and their multimillionaire financiers.

“The Hollywood Foreign Press have warned me that if I insult any of you, or any of them, or offend any viewers, or cause any controversy whatsoever, they’ll definitely invite me back next year,” Gervais said.

Wait, no, that’s what he said in 2012, during his third hosting slot in a row. In response to the new announcement, Gervais characterised the deal as “an offer I can’t refuse,” but swore “this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening.”

Former Golden Globes highlights from Gervais: calling Bruce WillisAshton Kutcher‘s dad”; hanging shit on Johnny Depp; and his 2016 dead-naming dig at Caitlyn Jenner.

THR states this year’s Golden Globes awards, hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg, dipped a lil’ in the ratings from the year before. Considering the Oscars got through 2019 without a host at all, it seems the folks are going for what they know works.
