Rami Malek Is Locked In To Play Freddie Fkn Mercury In The Queen Biopic

It’s taken 25 years, but a movie on Queen singer and all-round superstar Freddie Mercury seems ready to hit the screens with Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek playing the legendary frontman.
The movie’s gone through development hell for years, and it lost Sascha Baron Cohen due to ‘creative differences’ with the surviving members of the band, but the show must go on. An Insta post from mega-director Bryan Singer, who’ll be helming the appropriately-titled Bohemian Rhapsody, confirmed the news:

With a new face for the film, it will be interesting to see the direction the movie takes. The band itself apparently wants to keep it PG, focusing on the Queen’s existence after Freddie’s death, whereas Cohen wanted to focus on the more, let’s say, extravagant details. With rumors of little person orgies and extensive drug use, there’s certainly a lot of ground to cover.
However, casting an actor known for his quiet, weird roles to play Freddie friggin’ Mercury suggests they’re going to show more of his reserved, retiring side – those close to the musician say he was modest and shy in person. In any case, it might not be the best movie to take your nan to.
It looks like shooting will start next year, but if the last effort is anything to go by, it could take a while. Long enough to get your Queen karaoke skills up to scratch, anyway.
