In the latest episode of politicians do and say the darnedest things at their exclusive $300-a-head circle jerk sessions comes a leaked menu from Mal Brough’s Liberal National Party fundraising event held in Brisbane on March 28, that surfaced today. In addition to high smarm-factor throughout (“please ensure you eat up all your greens before they take over completely” – ho ho!), the copy contains an embarrassingly low-rent and offensive reference to the Prime Minister with an item described as: “Julia Gillard Kentucky Fried Quail – Small Breasts, Huge Thighs, and a Big Red Box”.
Mmmm. Sexism.
The ABC reports that Mr Brough confirmed the authenticity of the menu and has since apologised, explaining the menu was written by a non-party member who thought it would be “humorous” but is now “deeply apologetic”, in the same way as a 12-year-old I thought putting Glad Wrap over the toilet bowl would be “humourous” but was later “deeply apologetic” when it was my mum and not, as I had predicted, my little sister who was next person into the WC.
Brough also said “I didn’t condone the menu nor did I authorise it…it should never have been written.” The LNP also responded to the flaming shit bag with a statement condemning the menu declaring “this card was not produced or authorised by the LNP or the candidate. The content of the card was absolutely unacceptable and has no place at any LNP event.”
It’s conceivable that this type of degrading schoolyard sexism would be present in an actual schoolyard but in ANY context outside of that, this grotesque brand of sexual objectification and prehistoric woman-hating is unacceptable, embarrassing, and deserves to be outed.
Kevin Rudd described the menu copy about Julia Gillard as “snide” and “dirty”, which you can see him say in the footage below. Pay special attention to the man to the left of Rudd who is a pretty stellar representation of how most people are feeling about Australian politics at this point.
