Earlier this week, it was reported that Nicolas Cage had filed for an annulment four days after his recent wedding, and new details have since emerged in the form of court documents, in which the actor claims he was too drunk to understand what he was getting into.

Cage has been in a relationship with makeup artist Erica Koike for at least a year, and he claims that the pair drank heavily together before applying for a marriage license in Las Vegas last weekend, then tying the knot on the same day.
Per a copy of his subsequent filing, his lawyer said:
“Prior to obtaining a marriage license and participating in a marriage ceremony, [Cage] and [Koike] were both drinking to the point of intoxication. As a result of his intoxication, when [Koike] suggested to [Cage] that they should marry, [Cage] reacted on impulse and without the ability to recognise or understand the full impact of his actions.”
The filing goes on to claim that Cage was not aware of the extent of Koike’s “relationship with another person”, and also that she did not inform him of her crimimal history, which includes “active criminal proceedings” in Nevada.
Nicolas Cage has been married a number of times before, most recently to waitress Alice Kim. Before that, he was married to musician Lisa Marie Presley and actress Patricia Arquette.
His recent film credits include voicing the character of Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
