‘MKR’ Runners-Up Get A Rude Awakening On How Reality TV Works

It could be that My Kitchen Rules favourites Jac and Shaz are naive as to the ways that reality TV works, or it could be that somebody at Woman’s Day is having a laugh – hey, it could very easily be both.
Either way, a story is circulating in the wake of last night’s MKR finale that the Mount Isa cousins suffered some kind of on-set “meltdown” after thinking they had won, then being asked to film an alternate ending.
In the finale, British boys Will and Steve cranked out five courses to walk away with the $250,000 prize, the latter’s side-part remaining absolutely immaculate throughout.
The show actually shot two versions of the ending, for the sake of keeping the real one a secret, but according Woman’s Day, poor, sweet Jac & Shaz were not informed that this would happen.
Soon after the confetti dropped on their supposed victory, their hopes and dreams were vacuum sealed and placed in tepid water, much like any piece of fish that comes anywhere near Drasko.
Per Woman’s Day’s clearly impeccable source:
“Jac and Shaz burst into tears, and their families, who were in the audience, got very upset too. They went from the highest high to all of a sudden feeling robbed of their victory and they stormed off the set. They were furious, and I can understand why. It’s like being given something and then having it snatched away from you. Jac and Shaz aren’t actors and they don’t want to be, so for them to find out that it’s staged was a real blow.”
TBH, we’d feel pretty bad about this if it turned out to be true, as Jac and Shaz have proven themselves time and again to be just bloody lovely, and could very easily have won themselves.
For the record, Will and Steve, who only found out they had won when the rest of the nation did, did a round of breakfast radio interviews this morning, and have called the reports “absolute rubbish.”
We’re still vaguely hoping that the last week has been a big fake-out, and that Ash and Camilla will return to take out the grand prize in a wave of mangled French pronunciations and impossibly high hair.
If you’re a keen home cook with the ability to sell Dettol and give hilariously bitchy quotes to camera, MKR is already casting for it seventh season.
