Mindhunter

It’s been a.. uh.. while since season one of Mindhunter hit Netflix. To be exact, it’s been a year and three months but season two is coming, it’s definitely coming.

Show creator Joe Penhall said as much in a recent interview with Metrorevealing he is hopeful that season two will be out by the end of 2019. However, Penhall said this depends entirely on director David Fincher.

Specifically: “I don’t know [about the release date] because that’s always up to David. He kind of goes into editing and he doesn’t talk to anybody until he comes out again.”

According to Penhall, filming wrapped up “about a month ago” in December of 2018 so the editing process may have just kicked off. Considering season one came out in October of 2017, Fincher might be going for the same thing.

“I would hope that would be by the end of this year but I just don’t really know,” Penhall told Metro, adding Fincher likes to do things on his own schedule.

As you may know by now, season two will be about the infamous cult leader Charles Manson. Australian actor Damon Herriman will star as the criminal.

“Manson is a great example of a self publicist if there ever was one. A classic narcissist. Fame was incredibly important to him. You know he started out trying to be a rockstar, and became very disgruntled with Hollywood. I think you’ll see Holden’s growing narcissism, as well as his awareness of how much power he wields.”

Mindhunter is based on the true crime novel of the same name by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker. The Netflix version introduces us to FBI special agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), reluctant partners who find themselves researching a new type of murderer – yet to be termed in 1977 – serial killers.

Holden and Bill journey through the country visiting, interviewing, and studying captured serial killers in an attempt to understand them and track down others. A major character in season one is the frankly terrifying “Co-ed Killer” Edmund Kemper. The American serial killer murdered ten people, including his mother and paternal grandparents, between the years 1964 and 1973.

Excitingly, if all goes well, Penhall already has plans for three more seasons – five in total in which these guys become increasingly successful and the calibre of the interviewees becomes increasingly illustrious and famous.”
