The Mean Girls Reboot Just Premiered In NYC & Heaps Of OG Cast Members Walked The Pink Carpet

Get in loser!!! The Mean Girls reboot has rolled out a pink carpet for its premiere and we’ve collected all the best moments from its extravagant debut.

In case you’ve been busy figuring out if the limit does (or does not) exist, the 2000s teen comedy Mean Girls was recently given the reboot treatment. And before you go “Awww why?”, it’s not your regular reboot. It’s a musical with loads of modern twists!

To give you the TL;DR on the whole thing: it’s a reboot based on the musical based on the movie which was inspired by the book, Queen Bees And Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman.

The 2004 version of Mean Girls is beloved by audiences worldwide, not only for its star-studded cast (Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey and Lindsay Lohan) but for its jokes, relatability, outfits and (for me) glorious soundtrack. So, loads of folks are holding this reboot to very high standards.

The premiere has finally rolled around after months of press, interviews, teasers and trailers, and let’s just say the pink carpet was jam-packed with moments that can be described as fetch.

Of course, when a reboot is announced, fans deep-dive into the internet for any hints of a reunion or cameo from the OG cast.

Mean Girls has yet to premiere in Australia, therefore it is not certain if we will be getting a reunion or cameo from the main cast in the movie. But we did see some of the original gang make an appearance on the pink carpet.

Producer and comedian Tina Fey, who reprised her role as Mrs Norbury in the 2024 reboot, was, of course, present for the pink carpet! Ugh, she looks so happy to be there that I feel happy to see her there. Her happiness is contagious!

Alongside Tina’s appearance was the one and only Lindsay Lohan — AKA Cady Heron in the 2004 flick — who looked absolutely divine on the carpet. The pair shared a cute reunion moment at the premiere, standing side by side for a quick photo opp.

Lindsay also took a pic with Aussie actress Angourie Rice, who portrayed Cady in this version of the legendary film.

Another original Mean Girls star who made an appearance was big boss Rajiv Surendra who flawlessly portrayed Kevin Gnapoor AKA Kevin G!!!

To pay homage to the film, Rejiv wore the varsity jacket the mathletics team won back in 2004. Kevin G is a real G for wearing that historic piece. Put it in the Louvre.

But what makes this even cuter is that Wai Choy — another mathlete and member of K.G and the Power of Three in the OG Mean Girls — appeared on the red carpet wearing the same jacket!!!

However, it was one special interaction that definitely overshadowed all the excitement at the premiere. And that was the beautiful hug shared between Jaquel Spivey — who portrays Damian in the new Mean Girls — and Daniel Franzese who played the OG Damian.

Look, I’m not the best at lip reading from afar, but I can just tell the conversation between these two is just pure love and appreciation.

Someone needs to edit this video with Daniel’s iconic rendition of “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera playing in the background to amp up the emotions.

I know people can get tired of reboots, revamps, re-dos and change, but something about this film is alluring my inner theatre kid.

I’m super keen to see how the new Mean Girls shapes up, and how audiences will react to teen drama being conveyed through song and dance.

There better be a song about Glen Coco, that’s all I care about.

Mean Girls hits theatres on January 11.
