Marvel And Netflix Join Forces On Four New Series

As the Comic Book Renaissance continues, we hear word that Marvel and Netflix are teaming up to create MOAR SUPAHERO TEEVS.

After countless super-films have found success with a mainstream audience, big studios have been quick to jump aboard the bandwagon; it’s now been over a month since the release of ABC’s surprisingly-better-than-you-thought-it-was-going-to-be series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and word is that it’s doing relatively well. Combine that with a proven audience for other Netflix series and hopefully this will mark the beginning of more and more Netflix supported projects that the big networks would be too chickenshit to bank on. Never Forget #firefly #freaksandgeeks #community #happyendings [sobbing intensifies]

To kick off the Marvel x Netflix partnership a confirmed four series will be released – one each for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage – culminating with The Defenders. You get a series, you get a series, EVRYbody gets a series!

Daredevil (aka Matt Murdock / Ben Affleck)

Powers: Super senses sans sight

After being blinded by a lil’ radioactive somethin’ somethin’, young Matt Murdock recovers only to find that all of his remaining senses are greatly heightened.
Decides to become ‘Daredevil’ because, if you’re good at something never do it for free.

Jessica Jones (aka Power Woman)

Powers:
Super strength and can fly.

Jones was there when Peter Parker was bitten by the super-spider – fun fact. Afterwards she was in a car when military vehicles casually transporting radioactive materials ran into them. Which of course, instead of killing her, gave her fun superpowers #dreamresult! A movie about Jones has reportedly been in the works for years, with Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg having previously submitted a pilot for ABC; hopefully now, said script will be razed to the ground.

Luke Cage (aka Power Man)

Powers: Super skin and super strong.

In NYC’s Harlem born and raised

With a street gang is where he spent most of his days

Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool

When a couple of rival gangs, they were up to no good

Started making trouble in his neighbourhood

He got in one little fight and was sent to Seagate Prison…once there he was offered the chance to be involved in kewl genetic experiments. BAM. Superpowers!

Iron Fist (aka Danny Rand)

Powers:
Martial Arts expert and really rich.

Born to an American billionaire, Danny Rand thought he had it all, until life got in the way. On a family holiday to a mystical city Daniel’s parents are killed and he is adopted by a sensei bro who teaches him the UFC mixed martial arts. The character is popular from his and Power Man’s co-founded Heroes for Hire, Inc initiative.

The Defenders (aka non-team)

I don’t want to say ‘The Dud Avengers’, but….

Members of ‘The Defenders’ have included The Hulk, Ghost Rider, Dr.Strange, Nighthawk, Silver Surfer, Luke Cage, Iron Fist et cetera.

So far, Netflix and Marvel have promised a minimum of four series (with 13 episodes for each) and they are scheduled to begin streaming in 2015. Marvel Entertainment president, Alan Fine, has said “This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what’s sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure.” ‘Adventure’ is damn right, Allen, you beautiful bastard!

Since there are definitely no Netflix subscribers in Australia, it’ll be up to one of the bumbling channels here to pick it up. Otherwise, it’s a’torrentin’ we go.
