Disney Confirms It’s Yanking Marvel & ‘Star Wars’ Movies From Netflix

News that Disney planned to abandon Netflix in favour of its own streaming service broke last month, and it truly saddened everyone who specifically likes to watch Finding Dory on Netflix and nowhere else.

But it was up in air as to whether Disney would be moving some of its other brands and properties – specifically Marvel and Star Wars content – over to the new service. Well, now we have an answer: yes.

“We’ve now decided we will put the Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ movies on this app as well,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said during an investor Q&A.

It’s likely that when it comes to Marvel films, this mean standalone films like The AvengersIron Man etc. will be jumping ship, but probably not Netflix co-creations like the Defenders franchise, which includes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist.

That probably is based on comments from Netflix execs after the initial announcement. A Netflix spokesperson told The Verge that “we continue to do business with the Walt Disney Company on many fronts, including our ongoing deal with Marvel TV.”

But apart from those, nnnnnope. You’d better get your Marvel and Star Wars Netflix viewing in before they drop their new service. There’s no real indication of what it will look like at this point – but stay tuned.
