The Powers That Be At Netflix Have Cancelled ‘Iron Fist’ After Two Seasons

You’re not going to have old Iron Fist to kick around anymore, as streaming giant Netflix revealed earlier today that it has cancelled the Marvel superhero series after two seasons.

In a media release obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, the company said:

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

The show, which debuted its first season in March of last year, was generally panned by critics, and caused controversy on the internet for its perceived marginalising of Asian actors.

The second season, which arrived in September, was similarly maligned by critics, most of whom agree that it improved upon the clunky first season, but not by much.

The cancellation comes at an interesting time, as Disney, which owns Marvel, is gearing up to start its own streaming service as a rival to Netflix.

Disney’s service will house all of the Marvel feature films, some of which, like Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther, can still be seen on Netflix for now.

It will also feature original Marvel and Star Wars content.
