LIVESTREAM WENDY DAVIS’ 13 HOUR FILIBUSTER AGAINST ABORTION BILL

Texan Senator, Wendy Davis, 50, has been embarking on a 13 hour filibuster (stonewalling) in attempt to campaign against a proposed bill that would potentially see significantly decreased accessibility and closure of almost every abortion clinic in Texas, America’s second largest state.

According to The Age, Davis, who cannot take breaks, go to the bathroom or eat during her 13 hour filibuster, allegedly, “remained unfazed when a male protester stood and shouted, “Abortion is genocide!” Audience members in the Senate chamber have been continually cheering and applauding Davis; some clutch coat hangers as a symbol for the grim, dangerous alternatives women may have to resort to if Senate Bill 5 were passed, ending up in the hands of Rick Perry—Texas’ Republican Governor.
Davis has been bravely passing the 13 hours by reading out letters and testimonials from women and doctors who would be threatened by the bill, while also posing and answering questions to the floor of politicians who join her.
