The Today Show is our beautiful, unpredictable, national treasure – one finger firmly on the pulse of Australia, the other scheming to surprise on-air talent and catch them off guard wherever possible.
And this was none more evident than earlier this morning, where an ordinary cross to Thredbo to get an update on snow conditions turned into a mini-family reunion, as the crew surprised host Lisa Wilkinson with an appearance by her own son Louis FitzSimons.
Despite it being an undeniably cute little moment, it’s the fact that Wilkinson immediately went into Mum mode to chastise Louis – live on air – for driving through snowy conditions without tyre chains that things get really good.
Let this be a lesson to you. If your Mum happens to be the co-host of a nationally broadcast morning show on a major free-to-air network, and the show’s producers call you to rope you in doing a live-to-air surprise, make sure as hell you haven’t sent her any photos involving Dad’s car and a lack of proper safety equipment in the preceding 24 hours.
Or, y’know, something like that.
Sidenote: Louis FitzSimons? Absolute bloody natural on camera. Smashed it out of the park. 10/10 would watch again.
