In the months since Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper‘s A Star Is Born was released, the hype around it only seems to have increased, and this weekend, it seems we may have actually gone off the deep end, with a real-life billboard of Gaga’s character Ally appearing in Los Angeles.
As you may recall, a key scene in the film features Ally and Jackson Maine looking out over the hazy LA skyline from the Chateau Marmont and seeing her billboard, a sign that she is completing her transition to full-fledged pop star.
Overnight, New York Times writer Kyle Buchannan tweeted out an image and a video of an actual Ally billboard on the Sunset Strip – “same place it’s supposed to be … albeit a little lower.” It was more-than-likely put there by the studio as a piece of viral marketing as the critically-adored film barrels into awards season and, well, it clearly did the trick:
Yup, they’ve put up an Ally billboard outside the Chateau Marmont on the Sunset Strip. Same place it’s supposed to be in A STAR IS BORN, albeit a little lower. pic.twitter.com/oeBfwaQvBu

The Golden Globes, the first major Hollywood awards ceremony of 2019, will take place on Sunday January 6, and A Star Is Born is up for no fewer than five trophies, competing as a Drama rather than in the Musical or Comedy category.
The film itself is up for Best Picture – Drama, while ‘Shallow‘ is up for Best Original Song – Motion Picture. Lady Gaga is nominated for Best Actress – Drama and Bradley Cooper is up for both Best Actor and Best Director in the same bracket.
Adam McKay‘s Dick Cheney biopic Vice, which is competing as a comedy, leads the pack with six total nominations. The Favourite, Green Book and BlacKkKlansman also scored five, with the latter competing against A Star Is Born in the drama category.
