The GoFundMe For Kylie Jenner Has Somehow Raised More Than $2000

As someone who buys doubles of almost every item of clothing in case one gets lost or destroyed, I’m the last person to be lecturing anyone on wasting money. That said, a surprisingly large number of people seem willing to just chuck their hard-earned cash out into the void, with the fundraising campaign to get Kylie Jenner to her first billion dollars so far sitting at $US 2001.

As we we reported yesterday, the GoFundMe campaign was started by comedian The Fat Jew in response to a Forbes cover story about the young reality star and cosmetics mogul, who is on-track to being the youngest ever self-made billionaire. He wrote in the page’s description:

“Kylie Jenner was on the cover of Forbes Magazine today for having a net worth of 900 million dollars, which is heartbreaking. I don’t want to live in a world where Kylie Jenner doesn’t have a billion dollars. WE MUST RAISE 100 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP HER GET TO A BILLION, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.”

At time of writing, there are 82 donors, and some people have kicked in large amounts: as I was writing this, one individual ponied up $300, while another straight-up madman gave $1000. Many others, it appears, have seen the GoFundMe as a marketing opportunity, chucking in $5 donations in order to get some exposure for themselves and promote their businesses and brands.

Y’know what, as dumb as it seems, millions of people are currently looking at the page, so if that self-promoting strategy pays off in terms of likes, clicks, followers, engagement, scented candle sales or whatever the fuck else it is that these people looking for, then I say good on ’em for showing a little entrepreneurial spirit.

As of today, the GoFundMe is only $899,997,999 short of its goal, so you could go donate to it, or continue to angrily debate whether or not Kylie Jenner is deserving of the “self-made” tag, or completely ignore it until 24 hours from now, when we’ve all moved on and nobody will give a shit about this story anymore. It’s your call entirely, folks.
