Justin Theroux Opens Up On “Heartbreaking” Split From Jennifer Aniston

We were totally devastated earlier this year to learn of the split between Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston. While they were fairly quiet about their reasons for separating, Theroux has recently opened up about their “heartbreaking” divorce as part of a New York Times profile.

The 47-year-old actor seemed to suggest that the breakup was fairly civil, telling the publication:

“The good news is that was probably the most – I’m choosing my words really carefully – it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity … Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other. It’s more like, it’s amicable. It’s boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be.”

The couple released a mutual statement in February describing their separation as “mutual” and a “lovingly made” decision, although Theroux still says it was a difficult time:

“It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we’re both very proud of.”

The profile depicts Justin Theroux as living his best life in the wake of the divorce, and is peppered with descriptions of cruising around Manhattan in SUVs, drinking vodka lime sodas and hanging out in dive bars with Alexander Skarsgard and various other “slumming actors and models”.

Jennifer Aniston, meanwhile, is working on a still-untitled TV project with Big Little Lies star Reese Witherspoon.
