Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux broke our little hearts in two yesterday when they announced that they are going their separate ways, with the split leaving Chrissy Teigen and John Legend as pretty much the only celebrity couple we can still believe in.
As the dust-settles on the breakup, various “sources” close to the couple have begun to emerge with claims about what went wrong, and The Sun is today reporting that Jen and Justin have been estranged for months, and have hardly spoken in that time.
“Friends” of the couple apparently ratted them out to the UK tabloid, claiming that Justin has more or less camped out in New York for the past year, while Jen has preferred to remain in her Los Angeles home. Per one source:
“It’s no secret that Justin loved New York – he’s basically lived there since they first got married. It was never your typical marriage. Obviously he has had work in New York but he also had all his friends and his social life over there too – he loved going out in New York, pretty much his life revolved around the city – whereas Jen was an LA girl.”
Allegedly, this is where the problem started, as acting jobs in different parts of the country kept them apart, and they saw each-other less frequently:
“In the beginning he’d fly over to LA to visit Jen but in the past 12 months he barely went over. His priority was his career – acting and writing – that was his main focus and he felt New York was the best place to do that. It’s sad but that’s the way it was – Justin has hardly mentioned Jen at all to the people he hangs out with – it’s almost like he was not even married. Jen left New York because she felt she had more privacy in LA – she lives in a gated community there and it’s a different pace of life than living in the middle of the city. Justin loved fast-paced New York life while Jen loved the sunshine and glamour of LA, and ultimately they just grew apart.”
The Sun also claims that Jennifer Aniston had Theroux sign an “iron-clad prenup” before their wedding, keeping her Friends fortune safe, but that “Justin is a proud man, he won’t be asking for anything from Jen in the split.”
That’s comforting at least. Now, excuse me as I marathon Friends and gently sob for the remainder of the weekend.
