OH, HELLO: Darling Man Jake Gyllenhaal Is In John Mulaney’s Netflix Comedy Special

John Mulaney

“WHOLESOME CONTENT ALERT”, I scream into the void on this fine Wednesday morning, because Netflix has gifted us the trailer for John Mulaney‘s wonderful-sounding comedy special. It’s called John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch, and it’s a children’s musical comedy special from “a man with neither children nor musical ability.”

Incredible.

In Mulaney’s own words: “The Sack Lunch Bunch is a group of children ages 8-13 who are more talented than me.” Love that for him.

Expect comedy sketches for all ages, a papier-mâché volcano, and meditations on the unknown from children and adults – it’s what the presser says, I swear.

There’s also a whole bunch of celebrity guests like muso David Byrne, Tony Award winner Andre De Shields, Natasha Lyonne (Russian Doll), Annaleigh Ashford (Kinky Boots), Richard Kind (Spin City), soprano Shereen Pimentel and none other than Jake Gyllenhaal.

The trailer is so… wholesome. Also, the kids literally ask Mulaney what the tone of the show is – a legitimate question – and Mulaney answers, “That, we talk a lot about that, that’s the million-dollar question.”

John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch hits Netflix December 24, otherwise known as Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas.

This is so unbelievably random but I am here for it.

On a related note: The kids of the show “insisted on a ‘big premiere’” complete with the fancy dress and red carpet. They got it, of course. They also met ol’ mate Nick Kroll.

Swipe away.
