The first sequel to Syfy’s 86-minute oneliner Sharknado isn’t even out yet, but they’re so confident of its ability to generate beaucoup viral buzz that they’ve gone ahead and ordered another one.
Sharknado 2: The Second One (yes, it is absolutely called that) will air on July 30 and take original cast members Ian Ziering and Tara Reid to New York, where they’ll join Vivica A. Fox (Independence Day), Judah Friedlander (30 Rock) and Mark McGrath (the band Sugar Ray) for presumably more shark-based inclement weather.
Syfy’s original Sharknado generated 5,000 tweets per minute and attracted an audience of 1.4 million, so it’s not a huge surprise that the US cable network is turning the franchise into a trilogy.
Sharknado 3 will reportedly air Summer 2015.
