The I’m A Celeb Stars Legit Thought They Were Gonna Die Last Night & The Audience Was Horrified

Seriously though, I’d love to have a sit down with whoever the hell is coming up with all the wack-ass challenges on I’m A Celeb. Or actually, maybe not, ‘cos whoever it is clearly has a v. dark and twisted mind to be able to formulate such madness.

On last night’s episode of I’m A Celeb, the contestants had to partake in perhaps the most terrifying task yet, titled the Ice Ice Baby Trial.

Jack Vidgen, Grant Denyer, Pettifleur Berenger and Travis Varcoe all participated in the challenge, which required them to pump a lever at the bottom of a tank filled with ice cold water, in order to win points for their teams.

By the end of the challenge, the stars were wrapped in those shiny emergency blankets paramedics hand out to prevent hypothermia, and Jack admitted that he legit thought he was going to die. Seriously, which sadistic maniacs at I’m A Celeb came up with this?

I’m A Celeb viewers have since taken to Twitter to call out the producers for their freaky, Saw-like challenge:

Last year, I chatted to co-host Dr. Chris Brown about the new format of the show as it switched to a COVID-friendly environment. Rather than flying to Africa as they usually would to film the eps, they have instead trekked it out to the NSW outback.

“Fans of the show will probably notice minimal changes to Africa,” Dr. Chris told me. “Sure there’s the unfortunate quirk of the location that means our treehouse (where we host the show) is much bigger while the jungle camp where the celebrities try to survive is much smaller.”

He also discussed the show’s focus on challenges, rather than the voting system, as it’s no longer filmed live.

“The only other noteworthy difference is that camp mates are eliminated through trials rather than the voting system that we’ve used before,” he added.

I then asked what it’s been like to showcase the scary shit we have in our backyards, and he said: “This part of the country really lives up to its reputation for very inquisitive (and occasionally aggressive) venomous snakes and pythons but honestly it’s the size of the spiders and sheer number of ticks and leeches, and their desire to seek out our “warmest areas”, that will really surprise viewers.”

I’m A Celeb continues on Sunday at 7:30pm on Ten.
