Out of all the random stories to come out of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s royal wedding, Idris Elba DJing at their wedding reception is definitely up there.
The Luther actor revealed just how the moment came about during a recent appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Turns out, Prince Harry literally just asked him, face to face.
“So Harry and I, we’ve hung out a couple of times you know through his dad’s charity, The Prince’s Trust – helped me out when I was a young actor,” Elba explained. “I do a lot of work with him, met Harry and William a few times and Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJ’d and he was like ‘Hey man, what will you be doing on the date [wedding],’ and I was like ‘Oh, nothing’ and he goes ‘Oh, hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?’”
Naturally, Elba responded with: “Is this a joke? Are you joking?”
But Prince Harry replied, “Serious.”
And well, there you go.
If you’re unfamiliar with the actor’s many talents, Elba is an actual DJ and goes by the name of Big Driis. The bloke is so good, he’ll be performing at this year’s Coachella.

Turn Up Charlie, Elba’s brand new Netflix show will hit the streaming giant March 15.
The eight-part series tells the tale of 40-something-year-old struggling DJ Charlie. Approached by his best mate, David – who also happens to be a massive movie star – Charlie is given one final chance at his dream career because David is married to the mightily successful DJ Sara (Piper Perabo) and David wants to give Charlie a job.
Unfortunately, this new job isn’t on Sara’s line-up, it’s a different sort of a gig – a nanny gig for their daughter Gabby (Frankie Hervey).
Angela Griffin, Guz Khan, Frankie Harvey, and Cameron King co-star.
Can Idris Elba pull off a role in which he isn’t one of the world’s coolest people? Find out March 15.
